Last weekend I was in CrossFit heaven, three full days packed with intense WOD’s and the South East’s most elite CrossFitter’s competing for a shot at the Games, and best of all CrossFit apparel goodies galore!
I spent my weekend bouncing back and forth between working the Box Junkie Apparel booth, watching WOD’S, and of course doing some shopping of my own. 🙂 The Box Junkie gang just released a new line of tanks and t’s for men and women so our booth was slammed all weekend. The “Thighs Don’t Lie” tank was a big hit with the ladies. I love how proud we are of our strong figures and thick thighs, it’s not chub-rub ladies it’s muscle!
If you are a headband type of person and you haven’t heard of Junk Brand headbands, you’re totally missing out. They have a wide range of super stylish headbands that come in different patterns and styles. My personal favorite style is the Flex tie – fat. Just a little FYI heads-up depending on the pattern of the headband the material can differ. I bought a headband from their booth at Wodapalooza, ended up loving it and went online to purchase another one. When I received the new one in the mail I noticed the material was very different than my first headband and after trying it out a few times I definitely prefer the other material more (Quick drying jersey fabric). The folks at JUNK are all very nice and helpful on the phone so I recommend giving them a call first before purchasing online if you have any questions.
I was beyond impressed with the caliber of athletes in this years regionals. The athletes keep getting stronger and stronger as each year passes and the workouts keep getting harder as well. I can only imagine the amount of time and energy that these guys are putting into training each day and week. How well their meals are thought out and prepared each day? How much time they spend on mobility? I have so many questions! My favorite part of the weekend was of course watching the ladies compete. Talayna Fortunato came out strong form the start with a 180 # snatch. Pretty freakin’ impressive I must say!
But the real star of the show was Ms. Emily Bridgers, who blew by everyone and finished first on the podium. In the years prior Emily almost got a taste of the CrossFit Games and it was obvious that the taste lingered all year long during her training. She was unstoppable! She was all smiles after every WOD no matter how tired she was, and in true CrossFit fashion she cheered on her opponents as they fought to finish each workout. After watching these awesome ladies compete all weekend it really made me reflect on myself as an athlete. Just by being a spectator I was able to recognize my strengths and weaknesses. So with that being said I pulled out my handy-dandy iPhone and adjusted my “CF Goals” note on my phone. Here’s my new list of skills to work on:
- Strict HSPU’s (handstand push-ups)
- Heavy Overhead Squats
- Stringing more muscle ups together
- Pistols (they’ve gotten soooo much better but I still have a ton of work to do)
- Ring Dips!! (Bridgers had this amazing butterfly kip that I must learn ASAP!)
- Legless rope climbs
I have a quite a few more things on my list but these are the core skills that I added/adjusted based on the regional WOD’S. I can’t wait to get started, 3,2,1 GO TIME!
