I was what I would call a very active recreational athlete. I played soccer in high school, played in a men’s football league after high school and played every sport recreationally. The one thing I was very active and competed at a high level at was martial arts. I did Tae Kwon Do from age 3 to 18 and competed at the National Junior Olympic level for years. Also went on to do some MMA and Kickboxing and had 3 amateur fights.
In your opinion, what is the biggest misconception about Crossfit?
Biggest misconception about CrossFit is that is unsafe or too intense for some people. CrossFit is extremely safe- bad coaching and bad programming is unsafe not just in CrossFit, but in any sport. Proper programming can scale a workout to ANY level of fitness- whether you have never worked out a day in your life or are an experienced athlete. I prefer the client that has never worked out before or has limited experience because we can teach them the right way from day 1 and there are no “bad habits” to break and overcome.
What is your favorite and least favorite Crossfit movement?
My least favorite is the clean because I suck at it!! As far as a favorite- I really don’t have one- I guess I’d have to say dead lifts for a lift, and burpees.
What are some staple foods you always have in your kitchen?
This one is easy- Steak, sweet potato, and kale.
What does a normal day of meals look like for you?
Breakfast- 4-5 whole eggs with some sort of veggie mixed in
Lunch- chicken or beef with a sweet potato and veggies
Protein Shake post workout
Dinner- chicken or beef with yucca, sweet potato or some other good carb and veggies
In what ways has Crossfit changed your life?
This answer can go on forever!! CrossFit has changed my life in so many ways- but most importantly it has made me healthier than I have ever been before. With that comes the added benefits of looking better than I have ever looked and I am by far the strongest and fittest I have ever been. It goes so far beyond that – it has made me a better person, given me more energy, more life- which carries over in to your personal life- being happier, a better father, husband, and person.
What is your favorite cheat food?
Yes- whey protein, glutamine, glucosamine, alpha lipoic acid, CLA, Omega 3, and bee pollen.
What would be your advice for someone who is thinking about trying Crossfit for the first time?
Come to CrossFit Ripped, and give it a try- your first week is free- if you don’t like it after that- you don’t have to come back- I offer that because I know once you try it- if you are truly serious about being healthy and fit- you will be hooked forever!!
